Basic Parts of a Computer
Title: Basic Parts of a Computer
Today we will learn that computers are an integral part of our lives in the present era. Computers are being used everywhere in offices, schools, homes. But do you know how a computer actually works? A computer is basically made up of several basic parts, which work together to receive, process, store and display information. We should know these.
Let's learn it simply — the basic parts of a computer
1. Input Devices
Input devices are devices through which we give information or instructions to the computer. Example:-
(1) Keyboard: Used for writing.
(2) Mouse: For clicking and cursor control.
(3) Scanner: Converts images or paper into digital form.
(4) Microphone: For sound or voice input.
Without input devices, the computer cannot understand anything.
2. Central Processing Unit (CPU)
CPU or Central Processing Unit is the brain of the computer. It performs all the mathematical and logical tasks.
The three main parts of the CPU are:-
(1) ALU (Arithmetic Logic Unit): Performs mathematical and logical tasks.
(2) CU (Control Unit): Controls the work of all the parts.
(3) Registers: Store information temporarily.
In short, the CPU takes input and processes it into output.
3. Memory / Storage Devices
The parts used to store information are called memory or storage.
There are two types of memory:
(1) Primary Memory:
(2) RAM (Random Access Memory): Temporary memory, works while the computer is on.
ROM (Read Only Memory): Permanent memory, which contains startup instructions.
Secondary Storage:
Hard Disk Drive (HDD) and Solid-State Drive (SSD) – used to store information, software and files.
Pen drives, memory cards and cloud storage are used to store additional information.
4. Output Devices
Output devices are the parts of the computer that display the results of the computer's work to us. Examples:
(1) Monitor: Displays images, videos, and text.
(2) Printer: Prints documents.
(3) Speaker: Plays sound or music.
Without these parts, we cannot see or hear the output from the computer.
5. Motherboard
The motherboard is the main circuit board of the computer, where all the parts are connected together. The CPU, memory, input and output devices, everything communicates with each other through the motherboard. It is the communication hub of the computer.
6. Power Supply Unit (PSU)
The Power Supply Unit (PSU) supplies power to all parts of the computer. It converts external power into something suitable for the computer to use.
7. Peripheral Devices
These are additional devices that make using a computer easier or more fun. Examples:-
(1) Webcam
(2) External Hard Drive
(3) Headphones
(4) Game Controller
A computer can work without these. But if you use these parts, it will make your work more convenient.
Summary of this blog:-
1. Input:
Example: Keyboard, Mouse
Function: Providing information
2. Processing:
Example: CPU
Function: Processing information
3. Storage:
Example: HDD, SSD
Function: Storing information
4. Output:
Example: Monitor, Printer
Function: Displaying results
5. Power:
Example: PSU
Function: Supplying power
These are the things we can physically compare these parrots to.
The input device is like your eyes and hands,
The CPU is your brain.
The memory is your memories.
And the output device is your mouth, through which you express the results!
Every computer, be it a small laptop or a large desktop, cannot function without these basic parts. If you know these basic parts, you will not only be able to use them, but also be able to solve minor problems yourself.
